DSLR is becoming a norm nowadays. So why do we need to buy DSLR? When compact point and shoot camera is so much smaller, lighter and affordable ?A simple expalanation here would be versatility and quality imaging.
Versatility do not mean just that you can change your lenses to suit your needs but other extra stuff like external flash and remote trigger.
Quality imaging is another thing. During a normal clear day, PnS and DSLR camera would have little difference in image quality because of the plentiful amount of light. But when the lights start to fade that's when DSLR outshines PnS camera. Wildlife and fast action photography also benefits from DSLR cameras.The reason is because of the large sensor in the DSLR compared to PnS camera. Shutter speed and high ISO also makes imaging quality much better.
Although DLSR can't and probably will never beat small compact camera for quick action shooting but for serious photography DSLR is no doubt the winner.
